Development of Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs)

Considering the growing demand for high-quality health care and the increasing strain on time and costs, the role of scientifically established procedures, based on principles of 'Evidence-based Medicine', rises continuously.

What are Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) ?

CPGs have been defined as "systematically developed statements to assist practitioner and patient decisions about appropriate health care for specific clinical circumstances" (SIGN 50).

Classification of CPGs

According to the classification used in Germany, we differentiate between three levels of CPGs:

  • S1:  Expert group
  • S2:  evidence-based (S2e) or consensus-based (S2k)
  • S3.  all elements of systematic development.

The portal supports the development of CPGs of level S3 (and also, as a subset, such of level S2).
